I painted certain portions of this piece as field studies over the years; I decided to paint it in it’s present form during a class I was taking from Rod Frederick. He liked the development of the piece and the mood it was setting. With that bit of encouragement, I continued to work on the piece after the class until I reached the final product and decided to print it. I photographed the buffalo and landscape in the spring in 1992 in Yellowstone just north of Fishing Bridge by the mud pots.
