Old Faithful Inn was the first “Great Lodge” of the national park system
and served as a blueprint for many of the lodges to come. Robert
Reamer’s intent was to design the Old Faithful Inn to blend into the area
as if it were a part of the natural setting. It’s the popular opinion
that he accomplished his goal. Of all the reasons, I feel the proof
is the wildlife that you find milling about in close proximity. The
buffalo are the most prevalent, grazing along the buildings perimeter,
using it’s shadows to escape the heat of the summer sun and all the while
showing a lack of concern that we’re even there.
