Midnight Gathering
On those perfect, cloudless, full moon nights the shapes and colors on the geyser basin are quite discernible. You can actually tour the basin without a flashlight; however take one along just to be safe. The reflection of the moonlight on the thermal runoff and Firehole River never fails to capture my attention.
In my painting Midnight Gathering, the wolves, bison, Old Faithful Inn, Visitor’s Center and even the Old Faithful geyser were secondary ideas to the main reason I painted the piece—the reflection of the moonlight.
