2016 was a year of anniversaries in the park. Lake Yellowstone Hotel celebrated its 125th year and received it's National Historic Landmark designation; 100 years ago the National Park Service was established - and just as noteworthy the first buses traveled in the park; they carried tourists between Lake Hotel and Cody, Wyoming.
So many things to paint. What to do?
Where to start? I chose to paint the Lake Hotel along
with a small history of some concessionaire transportation.
On land from right to left is an Abbot Downing
stagecoach; 1917 White (model GEC) touring bus; 1937 White
(model 706) touring bus; 1975 MCI touring bus; 2003 Chevy
Van; 2012 Glaval; and lastly a 2016 MCI touring bus.
On water from right to left is the SS Zillah 1891-1907; the
first Lake Queen 1964-1994; and then the Lake Queen
As always I've included wildlife in my
composition. Far left are two wolves; there's one
grizzly and two bison. Notice the bison going the
opposite direction as everything else - typical!!
